| It is known that ancient Greek history with some degree of authenticity reflects the mythology. One of the myths of ancient Greece poetry tells the story of origination of Olympic stadium. If you listen to this legend, its founder was Hercules from Crete. Around the 17th century BC he and his four brothers landed on the Peloponnesian Peninsula. There's a hill to the grave of Kronos titanium, according to legend, which lose in fight against the son of Zeus, Hercules to commemorate the victory over his father's grandfather who organized the competition with his brothers in the race. To do this, on-site at the foot of the hill he measured the distance in 11 stages, which corresponds to 600 feet. Extemporized track with length of 192 m 27 cm was a base of the Olympic stadium. For three centuries it existed in such a primitive stage for not routinely carried out games, later called Olympic Games. Bit by bit, the Olympics have won the benevolence of all regions in the Peloponnesian Peninsula, and up to 776 BC were recognized by the whole Greece. It is considered that from this date people began tradition of immortalizing names of winners. |
