Genre and what to do:
Business simulation. Welcome to Real Estate Empire that offers you to try yourself as a real estate expert, dealing with neighborhood houses, buying them as cheaper as possible and selling them with maximum profit. First of all you select an avatar and a profession (handyman, general constructor, realtor, MBA and interior decorator) for your character. Each profession has its own advantages and disadvantages, so you need to be attentive to this point. After that you begin buying and selling houses. You see a map of a neighborhood from top perspective, where different types of houses are located. When a house is for sale you see green dollar sign above it and you should click on it to read necessary information, such as house condition, owner’s price, estimated market value, etc. Using this info you decide whether the house is worth buying or you’ll wait until the price drop down. It must be mentioned that you need to act quickly because you compete against four computer controlled characters and they may strike the same bargain before you and earn the biggest profit. If you decide to buy a house, you may repair it, thus increasing its value. As for selling a house, there are three possibilities, depending on market condition, to do that: hire a realtor, who takes 5% of the price, post ad in a newspaper or just put a FOR SALE sign.
Style and atmosphere inside the game:
Real Estate Empire is a captivating game that features solid graphics, diverse sound effects and cheerful instrumental music. As for graphics, it lacks bright presentation and details. A map is quite primitive; trailer homes, mid-sized family dwellings and luxurious multi-floor mansions look rather schematic than realistic. The majority of information is represented in the form of bare text and figures. So, the success depends on how can you manipulate and interpret those numbers, juggle mortgage and repair payments with new investments, maintain the precarious balance between manageable debt and foreclosure, and judge when the time is right to buy, sell, or wait until next month.
