Matching game. Welcome to Pirate Island that invites you to set out for unforgettable adventure through dangerous buccaneer - infested waters to unearth the intriguing mystery and discover uncountable treasures. Your task is to pick up items and place them anywhere on the game board to match horizontally, vertically or diagonally three or more objects of the same kind. Some tiles on the board are brown; you need to destroy all the brown tiles by making matches on them to complete a level. When you create matches of four or more objects, you generate one of four power-ups that can clear multiple tiles off the board. For instance, matching four items makes a bomb that, upon use, detonates all of the tiles and chains within a small radius. There are also two bonuses that can be collected; the Hourglass gives you more time to complete the current stage, while the hammer allows you to smash a single tile or unlock the item resting on it. Within some period of time you are offered to play bonus games: rotate pieces of a picture to assemble it and memory challenges. If you complete these mini-games, you earn additional points; if you don't have the patience for them, a "Skip" button allows you to move on. If you play well, you are awarded with original trophies that are shown in a special room. For example, the Deadly Matchlock Pistol is awarded for popping eight tiles in one shot, while the Tricorne of Plenty is awarded for a combo of eight matches.
Style and atmosphere inside the game:
Pirate Island is another version of match-three puzzles that features stunning graphics and visuals, diverse sound effects and thrilling instrumental music. Good level design helps, especially since you're asked to do the same thing stage after stage. The visual presentation is also well done. There is quite amusing storyline, represented in the form of dialogue, that allows you to meet colorful characters and visit different beautiful island. The boards themselves shine, too, although more variety among the objects you match would've been welcome. One of the most entertaining moments is the dancing 3D skeletons between levels. All in all, despite of unoriginal concept, Pirate Island is the worth-playing game, due to stunning presentation, variety of power-ups, bonuses and trophies.
