Genre and what to do:
Role-playing game. Depths of Peril offers players to become a faction leader, which should protect the barbarian city, Jorvik, from herd of threatening monsters and complete various quests. More than that, you must compete with rival factions dreaming for seizing the city. Remember that Barbarians choose their leaders by fighting to the death. As a faction leader, you must deal with rival factions through diplomacy, trade, and in time, war. Between battles and raids against other barbarian factions, you build the most powerful faction possible, to withstand your enemies. Building the power of a faction involves exploring a fantasy world, slaying dangerous monsters, solving quests for the city, avoiding deadly traps, and plundering loot to share within your faction. All your actions have consequences in this world, so you should bare it in mind. For example if you disturb the mighty Legion of Fear, they may declare war and attack you.
Style and atmosphere inside the game:
Depths of Peril is a single player role-playing game with strong strategy elements that features solid graphics, diverse sound effects and suitable music. As for graphics, for a game that is played from an isometric perspective, Depths of Peril looks pretty decent. The game world contains a lot of little details that creates nice environments, elevating the game above what it could have been. The characters in Depths of Peril all look nice with a good attention to detail, and the different areas are varied in their appearance. The game has some nice effects, in the form of spells, treasure indicators, and so on. I like the graphics of Depths of Peril, and the ability to zoom out or use the map would sweeten the pot. The audio of Depths of Peril is pretty well - nice indicators of proposals from other factions and a good variety of effects accompany the graphics. The background music is well-done and fits the theme of the game well. I think the production values of Depths of Peril are above what is typical for an independent product, so that is to commended. All in all, Depths of Peril is the worth-playing game that delivers you hours of fascinating game experience because of unique game concept that combines traditional RPG combat and diplomacy. | Offline gameplay: 1 player | | Multiplayer: No |
