Genre and what to do:
"Gothic 3" has no auto-leveling, but with Alternative balance, with so hard-earned character enhancements - player feels getting stronger every level, even during the second game's storyline part.
In the same way, like in Gothic 2, the main character struggles to survive up to levels 5-10, by running away from monsters and gathering all available low-level quests.
Strength, hunting skills, and ancient knowledge, upon reaching values ????of more than 254, require double training points and gold to pay for. This makes the Alchemy profession and gathering much more essential to earn money.
Again, with an alternative balance in Gothic 3, the player may be attacked by more enemies at once. And the enemies chase the player character for longer distances. Therefore it can be quite difficult to get rid of them sometimes. You might have to end up fighting only by using potions and all possible curves in a landscape.
Development of Magic skills is not so silly and straight now. Many spells just cannot be learned without choosing previous level spells. At high levels, higher-level spells, cannot be learned without their lesser ranked analogs. From now, the game's magic does not make the player infinitely powerful. You cannot wipe out a crowd of orcs in front of you with one spell.
Most noticeable replacements and improvements which came with the alternative balance:
Higher cost of acquiring new skills. More damage to a player when falling. Damage and spell formulas were improved.
During quest completing, a player needs to have an eye on the availability of necessary items, and locations, and constantly check if game quest-related NPCs are alive.
Damage, protection, and resistances from spells are calculated using new formulas.
New types of armor and weapons were implemented. And generally, they are harder to get.
