Genre and what to do:
Sometimes you have to fight evil with its methods, especially if its attacks are not resistible. A prime example is Marvel's Hellslave. The protagonist of the almost Gothic series like RPG - "Hellslave", who made a pact with the devil - does the same thing.

There is no confrontation between good and evil - there is only hell and horrors that have put humanity to the brink of destruction. The protagonist specifically joins the cult of devil worshipers, makes a deal with them, and begins to worship the main demons. After gaining their power, he escapes and betrays them to start using received abilities against them.

The authors of Hellslave say they were inspired by the work of artists and poets, drawing their inspirations from the Dark Fantasy universe, poems, and artists. Such as John Milton, who wrote the poem Paradise Lost. And this is noticeable - the game has a very cold, gothic atmosphere. And the inserts from the comics, illustrating the plot, seemed to be drawn by Frank Miller himself, or someone close to this genre.

Sometimes the main character hears demonic laughter, and voices reminding us that sooner or later everything will have to be paid for. Such powers are not given for free. And then the hero saves the demon hunter, who directly says that sooner or later they will have to fight against each other. He perfectly understands what kind of deal, and with whom it was concluded. The hero receives the main and side quests in small surviving cities then the player is sent to free the ruins, mines, and dungeons. Destroy cultists in them, rescue prisoners, look for important relics, and so on. By returning to the city, the player can not only receive a reward, but also restore health/mana in the tavern, and buy reagents, potions, weapons, and armor. The local blacksmith can make equipment from hardly acquired recipes. The player has to study journal entries, found during journeys, to understand how to use them correctly.

In dungeons, an isometrical view is implemented, so we move the character and look at game objects from above. In the process, you can stumble upon a random battle - the game itself shows the likelihood of this and suggests using invisibility. But this can rarely be done after the battle has been won, some time has to pass. The hero also finds chests, sarcophagi, vases, and other ancient items in which some treasures might be stored. And vice versa, instead of finding something useful, the player can be attacked by monsters.

Periodically, it is necessary to solve puzzles (tips, where, what, and in what sequence to activate, are often found in player's journal entries). The game has turn-based combat, made in a first-person perspective, much like Wizardry and other classic dungeon hack&slash games. Instead of turn, time is used here. Some abilities and skills can throw enemies back in time.

Before diving into these dark adventures, the first thing to do is to choose which of the six high demons to worship. Choose from Beelzebub, Leviathan, Lucifer, Satan, Baal, and Asmodeus. This is necessary for class selection and gameplay. If you choose Beelzebub, then the character will fight melee, using rage as a resource. Bhaal will turn him into an assassin with poisoned daggers. Leviathan is for those who wish to be in a spellcasting class.

In the dungeons and caves the main character descends into, altars are often found, where they offer to pray to any of the above six, and other demons, including Mamona and Moloch. This will give temporary bonuses or money. Sometimes you have to defeat the demon helpers first to gain power or bonuses.

After several victories in a row, the hero is allowed to receive other benefits. Such as health regeneration, increased melee damage, or experience gained. And also the ability to start the battle with a certain amount of rage points, which is spent on melee attacks, and so on.

While playing Hellslave, the hero has many options to receive bonuses and upgrades. As in classic RPGs, when you get new levels, health and other characteristics are automatically added. Upgrade to the hero class specialization is provided. For example, to close combat if the character chose Beelzebub. And gives skill points separately for active and secondary skills.

Some modifiers provide various benefits - for example, they accumulate a bonus to rage, evasion, or defense as the protagonist's health decreases, they allow you to reflect some of the damage received, and increase the effects of potions. Only one of them can be active. New modifiers and Momentum skills - open, as the character levels up. And even, right in the battles, points are accumulated. By using them, spells with similar effects can be activated, for example, the instant restoration of magical energy. Also, many types of gear have useful properties. To deal damage over time with poison, or restore health/mana/rage in combat, or even after.

Even with hard difficulty, the player often easily kills several monsters at once. Closer to 2nd game part, the situation has changed - the game has become noticeably more difficult. It is especially difficult in the demonic dimension, where we go through portals to search for rare materials to create things. The genre of the game is dungeon hack&slash, a rather conservative concept. But the developers of Hellslave managed to take a fresh look at it.
