Shooter. Welcome to Aces of the Galaxy that offers you to assume a role of a human pilot, who has hijacked a space fighter from the low-down Skurgians and has to fight his way back to Earth. Your ultramodern ship is equipped with three types of weapons – a chain gun, missiles and torpedoes. The chain gun is your typical straight-shooting weapon, so be ready to use it permanently. The missiles let you shoot at several enemies at once, but they take some time to reload. And finally, the torpedoes are the most destructive weapons, and are particularly useful the large ships, but they move slowly and also take some time to reload. You have also additional equipment, such as a scanner that you can use to reveal invisible enemies, who give away their presence with sound cues. Power-ups for your weapons are scattered throughout each level, though you can power up only one at a time, so you may want to give some thought to which weapon is most useful in your current situation.
Style and atmosphere inside the game:
Aces of the Galaxy is the highly polished game as for presentation; it is one of the best looking games of this genre. Locations are beautiful and contain plenty of star fields, ship graveyards, battles between large fleets, and so on. The space crafts are not detailed but they look decent and add originality to the game by their attractive simplicity. Sound system is also well done; sound effects are diverse and impressive, especially the terrifying screech that accompanies an onslaught of suicide drones. But the music is surely highlight of the sound system. The score has sweeping, dramatic quality that suits the game's cinematic sci-fi visuals very well, and it often changes on the fly to suit the action, kicking into high gear when you get attacked to super speeds by a warp gate, or when you're only a few hits away from becoming space dust.
