| Even less effective were Third Olympic Games, held in the America in St. Louis. They were also tied to the World's Fair of 1904. The vast majority of participants were Americans themselves. Competitions were held mainly at the sports areas of the University of Washington, built for 40 thousand seats. Running track of stadium had 200 meters. The swimmers were starting in an artificial river channel with starting line made with hastily knocked together logs. These games have left as well nearly invisible mark on the history of Olympics glory.
Organizers of fourth Olympiad conducted in London, took into account mistakes of previous organizers.
In the capital of the UK for a short time was built up the White-city stadium (currently main office of BBC TV) with tribunes able to handle one hundred thousands of spectators. Its territories contain one hundred meter swimming pool, place for competing fighters and wrestlers, an ice skating rink with artificial ice, and much more.
London Olympics have given a start to constructing of sports complexes, special areas to conduct them. Evidences of such a decision are excellent results shown by competing athletes at White City stadium, and a big interest to games expressed by sports fans and media in many European and other countries. White-city is probably the first complex initially designated for conducting and handling of mass sports competitions. |
