| In 1924, the thirtieth anniversary of the Olympics flow over the world was celebrated. Honor to organize Olympic Games VIII was given to Paris. This time, Paris was preparing thoroughly and there was declared an architectural competition to plan and build the Olympic Stadium. Winner – Mr. Fort Dyuzharik developed a modern stadium with stands for one hundred thousand people, containing also sports facilities for the competitions in various disciplines and the Olympic Village for two thousand athletes. Although the project never was realized, it acted as impetus for the creation of such complexes in future. In a suburbs of Paris was built stadium "Colombes" with stands for 40 thousand places, relatively meeting requirements of those times, but not quite comfortable for the spectator. It was first time when swimmers were competing in 55 yard with separated lanes. Games were a great success and sportsmen have shown high sport results. Games were attended by over 600 thousand viewers. |
