XIV Games were held in 1948 in London, clearly showing a great thirst of people for peace and mutual cooperation. Having been held in a brutal post-war austerity, they nevertheless attracted a record for that time, 59 countries, 4104 participants, and nearly eighty five tens thousands of visitors.
New sports facilities for the games were not built due to lack of financing. Old Olympic Stadium, founded for in 1908, was not really unsuitable because of poor treadmill.
