Genre and what to do:
Strategy game. The game offers some marvellous tactical gameplay which puts you in control a plethora of tanks, aircraft, troops and artillery with the ability to call in a variety of air strikes and explosive attacks directly onto the battlefield. These new soviet missions are interwoven between the original mission campaign and show a different viewpoint on the story. You follow a group of Soviet characters as they try to establish a strong hold in Norway and then end up dealing with what happens with the fallout at Cascade Falls. The game offers some fantastic real-time tactical gameplay mixing control of tanks, troops, transports, artillery, and airborne units with the ability to call in a variety of bombs and explosive strikes on the battlefield. The game features a campaign driven by a slickly presented storyline built around the idea of the Soviet Union invading the United States in 1989. The six new missions are well developed and add an interesting twist to the narrative with some more strong characterisations from the Soviet side of the fence.
Style and atmosphere inside the game:
The atmosphere is really wonderful in the game. It is completed with historical moments and locations. It comprised great graphics with an intuitive RTS mechanic and was great fun to play. The new missions feature some very strong sequences as the player protects a convoy with assault choppers and then sends destruction upon NATO forces with artillery tanks. There really is an immense amount of opportunity for players to engage in more of the exciting, graphically rich environmental RTS warfare we all enjoyed a few years ago. There are plenty of chances to use air strikes and long range artillery barrages to level the playing field and the firebombs are amazing to watch as foliage burns and smoke erupts across the landscape. The great addition is that between these missions you also get more in game cut scenes as the Soviet characters squabble over events built around the narrative core of the original. The maps are also epic in nature and they give you a view far into the distance with a fully customisable camera. You can watch the battles from a position high in the sky or up close and personal from meters above the battlefield. The audio is as impressive as the engine, with some stunning ambient effects mixing in with the explosion of cannon shell and artillery barrages. Soviet Assault.s award-winning multiplayer modes get more maps to facilitate the intense team-based battles. All in all the game play is completed in the best way.
