| Straight Pool Rules. Straight Pool is played with a full rack of 15 balls at the beginning of the game. Only one ball is left the next game is racked with the remaining 14 balls. If the fifteenth ball interferes with the rack it is spotted on the break end of the table. If the cue ball interferes with the rack, then the breaker has ball-in-hand behind the kitchen line.   Object of Straight Pool To reach a point score agreed to at the start of the match - score more points that your opponent, such as 25, 50, 100. Each ball pocketed is worth one point. A turn continues until the player misses, commits a foul, or wins the game.   Winning the Game Straight pool The player that reaches the agreed point score first.   Combinations of Straight Pool You can hit and pocket any ball in any combination.   Fouls in Straight Pool A foul on the break receives -two points, any foul after the break receives -one point. Three consecutive fouls receives -fifteen points. A foul results in the incoming player shooting from the current position, unless the foul was a scratch or jumped off table, which gives ball-in-hand behind the kitchen line to the incoming player. On the break the cue ball and two balls must hit a cushion.   Penalty For Scratching in Straight Pool Ball-in-hand behind the kitchen line is given to your opponent. In this case the cue ball must cross the kitchen line before striking another ball or lose a turn.   Balls Jumped off the Table in Straight Pool Balls jumped off the table are considered scratched and are spotted. | Straight Pool Strategy. Beginner Players in Straight Pool: Make easy shots first. Shoot the short shots first. Play safe shots if you don't have a good shot to make.   Better Players in Straight Pool: Pocket balls at the rack end of the table first. Try to leave alternate balls to shoot in case you get out of line. Try to break up tight groups of balls. A hard shot is not required to break up tight groups. Don't bump balls unless you must, it can cause tight groups. |
